Registration is available one month prior to the event. Click the date to register.

 

  • Trainings will be in the Denver Metro area, unless otherwise noted.  Regional trainings will be offered based on needs (if there are at least 8 participants in need of training, we will send a trainer to your area). 

  • Budget considerations for Professional Development: staff time/stipends to attend training, travel (hotel, mileage, per diem), sub pay, number of people who may attend.

  • Consider how Professional Development events link to your work plan—e.g., if you want to work with a school on health education curriculum mapping or tobacco policy, consider what trainings would meet those needs, who would attend the training, and what resources will be needed to conduct work following the training.

District Coordinator Meetings The District Coordinator Meetings provide an opportunity for coordinators to share successful strategies, get help from each other to overcome barriers, and develop common evaluation strategies. Tobacco-Free and Healthy Schools Implementation Training This one-day training is intended to support schools that are funded to implement school health and tobacco prevention programs based on the Coordinated School Health model. The training will focus on effective implementation of School Health Improvement Plans, consistent evaluation, and appropriate budgeting for implementing their plans. Culturally Responsive Schools Training This two-day training will explore cultural responsiveness as it applies to educators and health education. Participants will examine instructional practices based on the idea of equity pedagogy, with a focus on the theory of culturally responsive practices, and the practical tools to differentiate instruction. Participants will explore components of a culturally responsive classroom and identify ways in which they can implement culturally responsive practices into their health education classrooms. TTI Tobacco Prevention 101 This one-day training is intended for TTI grantees and partners who are new to tobacco prevention. The training is designed to provide an introduction to tobacco prevention, education, and cessation programs, with an overview of policy. Health Education Teaching Strategies and Tools Training This one-day training is intended for TTI grantees and school staff that are implementing research-based tobacco prevention instruction. Participants will explore a variety of teaching strategies and receive technical assistance in order to help with the implementation of their chosen curricula. Curriculum Mapping and Alignment This training is designed for school or district curriculum mapping teams. The one-day training will provide a rationale for and an overview of curriculum mapping. The curriculum mapping process will include: examining data; determining the sequence of health topics; and identifying essential concepts, skills, and performance benchmarks. Participants will develop a curriculum map for a middle school alcohol, tobacco, and other drug curriculum. Additional resources will be provided for mapping other health content areas. School Health Teams interested in learning about curriculum mapping to identify gaps or develop a sequenced curriculum (This training requires that a school or district curriculum mapping team attend the training.) Health Education Standards and Assessment In this three-day training, participants will learn about the National Health Education Standards (NHES), score student responses on tobacco education performance assessments using a scoring system, and develop an action plan for implementing tobacco-related health standards and assessment in their school or district. Tobacco-Prevention Curriculum Trainings School, district, or TTI staff will participate in a two-day training for one of the following research-based curricula: Life Skills Training, Project Towards No Tobacco Use (TNT), Choosing Not to Use, Get Real About Tobacco. This training is intended for schools, districts, or TTI Grantees who have already selected one of these tobacco prevention curricula. Interested schools or districts

Tobacco-Free Schools Policy Checklist Training This training was developed to support Local Health Agencies, schools, and districts in Colorado to utilize STEPP’s Tobacco-Free Schools Policy Checklist. The training provides participants with strategies to work effectively with schools, information on how to assess the school’s policy, and how to support future action on school and community policy. Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT) Training This two-day training is intended to prepare health educators to use the CDC-developed Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT) to assess the comprehensiveness and efficacy of their physical activity, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug curricula. It provides tools and strategies that classroom educators can use to determine whether or not their health education curriculum contains the characteristics. Tobacco Education Student Assessment Web-based Training This web-based training will provide an overview of formative and summative assessment techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners. The training will introduce RMC-developed formative and performance assessments and examine how they can be used in health education classrooms to assess student knowledge and skills related to alcohol, tobacco and other drug curricula. ALL (Aligning Learners to Learning) Guide Web-based Training The ALL (Aligning Learners to Learning) Guide is a web-based resource for health educators interested in establishing culturally-responsive classrooms and in using instruction and assessment strategies that provide all students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to choose health-promoting behaviors. This training will be a web-based training that provides an overview of the ALL Guide and allows participants to complete the self-assessment, and identify information, resources, and tools to help them establish a more culturally responsive classroom.
