Target audience: School, district, and local health agency staff
Training description: The Tobacco-Free Schools Policy Checklist was developed by STEPP as a tool to assess school district policy content, communication, enforcement, and the district’s success in creating a supportive tobacco-free environment. This training provides instruction on how schools and districts can use the checklist to assess their current tobacco policy and develop action plans to improve or enhance their existing policy and implementation practices. School districts and schools are encouraged to partner with local health agencies to assess policy and develop comprehensive action plans.

Training objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of the Tobacco-Free Schools Checklist.
  • Describe Colorado’s Tobacco-Free Schools (TFS) Law.
  • Express how policy can provide a foundation for comprehensive school-based tobacco prevention.
  • Identify key steps for working on policy.
  • Utilize the three sections of the Tobacco-Free Schools Checklist.
Questions: If you have questions about the training, please contact Kathy Plomer at 303-867-9128 or kathyp@rmc.org.
