Standards and Assessment Trainings
RMC offers high quality Standards and Assessment Trainings for health teachers, based on the principle that the alignment of health standards, assessment,
and instruction will improve student learning.
Shifting from program-based results to standards-based results requires new thinking about student assessment. For example, student progress toward a health standard involves not only understanding health content but demonstrating the use of skills such as accessing health information, communicating effectively with peers, and making healthy lifestyle decisions.
In an RMC Standards and Assessment Training, attendees will:
- review the National Health Education Standards,
- score student responses on performance assessments using a scoring system developed by the State Collaborative on Standards and Student Assessment (SCASS), and
- develop an action plan for implementing health standards and assessment in their own district.
Following RMC Standards and Assessment Training, many health teachers want to develop their own assessment items, aligned with local standards and instruction. Responding to this need, RMC has incorporated a module on item development as a part of training. Health teachers, especially working as a district team, can produce quality health assessment items.
